This is a great unit.
It has a self cleaning filter. It has a “sanitize” setting where it heats the water to 160 degrees.
It is pretty quiet, but not silent.
I’ve had no trouble putting heavily soiled items in there. Like any dishwasher, if you have something baked on – you will need to select one of the more aggressive washing cycles – but it will get it off.
This unit has the ability to set each rack’s wash setting; so you can put your crusty pots and pans on the bottom set to “power scrub” and then put your dainty champagne flutes on the top rack set to “delicate”, in the same load.
The sides of my washer are bone dry after a wash cycle. I’m not sure what happened to the other reviewer’s unit. I do however, have a problem with plastic cups not getting fully dry – Are there dishwashers that can dry plastic (yet leave it un-melted)?.
Normal wash times are long – over 2 hours. But, it only uses 7 gallons of water, and the results are great. There is a “quick” cycle that only takes an hour or so.
I will agree the installation is more difficult than usual. This is because the LGs have no space underneath them. This is how they get the increased capacity… have I mentioned that these things are *huge* inside?
You will most likely need to drill new holes in your cabs for this – the hoses are at the very bottom of the unit – in the space normally thought of as the “toe kick” area.
The dim bluish interior lighting is gimmicky, and of little value in my opinion.
Note: All dishwashers get stinky if you leave food in them overnight. Period. This one is no exception.
As another reviewer wrote, this dishwasher does an extremely poor job of drying the dishes. Also despite trying a variety of rinse aid products there is a persistent white spotting of the dishes. Also the stench does get quite bad if not used for several days. All in all I am very disappointed with this product and it will be the last LG product I ever buy.
